Wordsmith Writing Coaches is proud to welcome our newest Wordsmith, Ethan Ransom! Ethan grew up in the rolling hills of Virginia where he developed a fascination with examining the grittier side of life, exploring conflicted and complex characters, grounded plots, and natural, authentic dialogue. He focuses on stories of hard-won redemption found in a journey through darkness, where broken people must face down the demons within and the enemies without in a struggle to find their way back to the light.
Ethan is a professional screenwriter who makes himself available to coach others in that field too. As a writing coach, he loves to help writers uncover the hidden gold buried in their work. “In my experience,” he says, “the solution to every story problem and the perfect element that will make the story sing is already present somewhere in the material. It’s my job to help the writer dig out the story they’re trying to tell, and set it free.”
Ethan earned his MFA in Screenwriting from the American Film Institute and completed the Professional Program for Screenwriting at UCLA. In addition to his long-form work, he has written and produced short form and promo content for Freeform (a Disney-ABC cable network), focusing on the channel’s darker dramas (https://vimeo.com/album/
He and his wife Suzanne live in Pasadena with their three children, Morgan, Sean, and Kylie.
