How did I wind up here?

For me, the words were slightly different but they all carried the identical connotation:

"Wow!"
"Really?"
"Whoa."
"Yes!"
"Hang on a bit there... I think I get it now..."

All of them are accompanied by a magical light suddenly kindled in the eyes, the dawning of comprehension.

That's what changed my life: realizing that I could kindle that comprehension over and over, in more and more people, and perhaps fan that flame into a hungry blaze that would burn for a lifetime without needing any help to keep it stoked.

That's what pulled me from international economics into education, mentoring, and eventually the coaching and editing business I lead now. The hope of kindling the ability to read intelligently, think critically, and write eloquently, in as many people as possible.

If I can do that for you, in any way, you'll see a similar spark of delight kindled in my own eyes too.
