I found this excellent explanation of my thoughts and feelings and wanted to share it with you as we celebrate our nation’s birthday this year …and as I dread losing so much of what actually makes America great (um, due process, anyone? Rule of law? Separation of powers? Welcoming both the refugees and the research scientists of the world?)
I deeply appreciate our founding principles and the brilliance, humility, and wisdom of our deeply divided founding fathers, and all the good things that our nation has managed to create in and through America over the past 236 years that we’ve lived under the aegis of our Constitution.
(note that Mona says “America is the greatest nation in the history of the world” by some very specific measures of “greatness,” which immediately follow that claim! Your own measures of greatness may vary)
Happy 249th Independence Day!
